circle作名词的意思是“圆形;  圆形物; 环状物”，更侧重于形象上是圆的，不是方的，不是三角形的。但是大家应该都知道学校操场并不是正圆形，所以正确的说法是：



run two laps



lap n.(跑道等的) 一圈



我们都知道lap作为“大腿”的意思，laptop就是笔记本电脑。除此之外它还有一个也经常使用的意思

例：

He recorded the fastest lap in last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

在上周的匈牙利大奖赛中他创造了最快单圈成绩纪录。

她在起跑阶段很有优势，但在最后一圈时被几名选手超出，最终获得了第九名。



lap也可以直接作动词，表示“(在赛跑中)领先一圈(或数圈)”



go/run around in circles的意思是“原地兜圈”，转了一圈又回到起点这种方式引申为“毫无进展;白忙，瞎忙乎”。



例：

The discussion kept going around in circles.

讨论一直在原地兜圈子。



I've been running around in circles trying to get all the reports finished before the meeting.

我一直在瞎忙，想在会前写完所有的报告，可是却毫无头绪



长跑 ≠ long run

long是“长”，

run是“跑”，

但long run却不是“长跑”。

long run真正意思是“长期的”，

固定搭配是

“in the long run ”

at a time that is far away in the future

从长远看;终究



例：

It seems a lot of effort but I'm sure it's the best solution in the long run.

看起来需要付出很大的努力，但从长远来看，我敢肯定这是最好的解决办法。





我们所说的“长跑”强调的是距离长，

正确表达：

long-distance running



例：

In the P.E.class we had the long-distance running.

体育课上，我们要进行长跑。



短跑 ≠ run short

short有“短的”意思，

但run short并不是“短跑”，

而是指：

短缺、不够，快用完。

固定搭配：

run short of something，
表示：某物品短缺、快用完了。

另外，ran out of 表示：

用完、耗尽

run out of money = 钱花光了

run out of credit = 手机停机



“短跑”的正确表达是：

sprint

/sprɪnt/

v./n. 短距离快速奔跑(或游泳)



例：

She was the world sprint champion.

她是短跑世界冠军。
