分不清的“客人”

guest、visitor、passenger、customer与client这些名词都含有“客人、访问者”之意。但是这几个词之间的区别很多同学却很难分清。

guest : 多指事先受到邀请而来，并受到欢迎与招待的宾客。也可指付钱居住者。
150 guests were invited to the wedding.
150位客人被邀参加婚礼。
We have guests staying this weekend.
有客人到家来和我们一起度周末。
Is he on the guest list?
他在不在宾客名单上？
He is a paying guest (= he pays for the use of a room in someone's home).
他是个寄宿房客。

visitor : 普通用词，指出差、访问、旅游、参观或到旅馆投宿的人，以及（网站的）访问者、浏览者。
You have some visitors to see you.
有人来看你了。
The theme park attracts 2.5 million visitors a year.
这个主题乐园每年吸引250万游客。
How can we attract more visitors to our website?
我们如何才能吸引更多人访问我们的网站呢？

passenger : 主要指乘坐交通工具的游人或旅客。

customer : 主要指交易一方的买主、主顾。

client与customer同义，多指进入商店被店员接待或购物的人，或接受服务的一方。
Mr Black has been a client of this firm for many years.

Social workers must always consider the best interests of their clients.
