　　A Brazilian woman was shocked to find a 5ft alligator lying tamelyin the living room as her three-year-old son petted the reptile's head。
　　The animal was apparently washed inside by the high water Mondaynight, said Luiz Claudio Farias, a captain of firefighters in thenorth-central city of Parauapebas。
　　When the woman went to clean up the following day, after floodwaters receded from her home, she saw the boy playing with somethingbehind the sofa. It turned out to be an alligator, and then shesnatched the boy quickly and called the firefighters。
　　Farias said it was lucky the reptile apparently wasn't in the moodfor a meal: "If he was hungry, he could have seriously hurt or evenkilled the boy." He confirmed firefighters trapped the alligator andtook it to a nearby environmental preserve, where they set it free。
