Prolouge
1941 Chicago
The idea hit 24-year old novelist David Smith while he was reading the headlines of the newspaper. Rising politican Harold Lancaster was gunned down in public while giving a speech about the rising crimerate in Chicago. Police Investigators say it was the mysterious Mafia that planned and went through with the death of Lancaster.
David never took Mafia rumors too seriously. What criminal could be so organized to create such a society like the mafia. There were no leads on a mafia in Chicago, nothing but murders and rumors. None of the people arrested for these crime have ever said that they were members of the organization and most of them had even said that they had never even heard of such a thing. The idea of an organized crime syndicate was way too much for David to beleive.
But that didnt stop the striving writer from coming up with the idea of using the mafia for a new novel. So far in his career, the farthest David Smith had gotten to actually publishing a book was writing short stories for the newspaper but this mafia idea. It was unique and people were interested in the mafia nowadays. Perhaps this was the thing that would make David Thomas Smith III on the map.
He'd begun his research on the mafia soon after that morning he came up with the idea. He collecetd newspaper article and headlines, talked to the police and goverment offials, anything that would help his book. He got little information. What he did know about the mob, however, was enlightening. He learned that the mafia was run by a 'family' and at the head of the mafia was a boss or 'don.' The mafia was behind such crimes as bootlegging, prostitution,ténis timberland, and, murder. All the information David leanred was extremly helping the making of his novel.
What David was thinking of doing was very diffrent. Before him, stylo mont blanc, no one had ever thought of publicizing the mafia and it wasnt long before his name was spread along the city. He got phone calls from well known Chicago authors and a few police officers who said they would help any way they could but there was one person who David particularly thought about. Someone who wasnt too happy about David's choice of topics.
It was a late Wednesday when he got the distrubing phone call. The unknown man called up and spoke to David about his novel. He said that a Mr. Pecora was warning him about publishing this book. He said if David didnt abandon the idea on the spot then something 'unfortunate' might happen to him. The phone call no doubt frightened David but it wasnt enough to cause him to let the idea go.
After trying to forget the phone call, Dave remembered the name. Mr. Pecora. He must have been referring to Nicolo Pecora who has been said to have ties to the Chicago mob. It was said that Pecora was the brains behind quite a few big operations in the city such as the death of many politicans and police officers. David took note of the man then let the phone call slip his mind.
The next day, David returned to his research. He conacted a cop who had exprience with the mafia cases for information and a few hours later, he had a visitor. The two men were dressed in matching tan suites which no doubt cost a good amount of cash. The two pushed there way into the house, one man lead David into the parlor while the other closed to door. In the parlor, the two mean said that Mr. Pecora sent his regards then one man slapped David across the face. The other grabbed David by the throat and lifted him up.
"Mr. Pecora strongly urges you to drop your novel idea." The man spoke in a accent, "If ya dont, I'm afraid we're gonna have to give ya another visit."
The other man lifted the brim of his hat, "Remember that, Mr. Smith." and with that, David was throw to the floor as the two men made their exits. They left the young author frightened and with a restored faith that the mafia did exist and was definatly a force in Chicago. The only thing Dave could think to do was go to the cops in hopes of getting some help from the police force. David grabbed his coat and headed out the door.
The young author didnt get far, however. Halfway down the street, a dark covered sports car drove up beside David. The door opened and two well-dressed thugs stepped out onto the street and advanced on David who didnt have time to run. The men grabbed him and took the frightened man to the car's back seat.
Within the car, David sat between the two large thugs. In the front seat were two other men. A young looking man who drove the car down the darkening streets and an older well-dressed figure who was smoking on an expensive cigar. David looked around him, frightened beyond fear then the gentleman in the front spoke in a distinctly Sicilian accent, "Good day, Mr. Smith." David stared foreward, fear in his eyes. The man kept his gaze foreward and spoke in a soft but strong voice, "My name is Joseph Corallo. I've heard that you had the idea of exploiting our little family."
David gulped as he listened ro Corallo. He'd done research on this man. He was one of the men most suspected of being the boss of one of the crime familys in Chicago. Dave cleared his throat and spoke in a nervous voice, "A novel."
Corallo took another puff of the cigar before speaking again, "I cant have you do that, Mr. Smith. I suspect you've heard from Pecora." David simply nodded, timberland cal?ados, "I thought so. That thug probably threatened you, might have even sent some of his cronies after you." Another nod, "Dave, was it? Ya see, Dave. Me and my family do things diffrent. Pecora only wants ya dead and he wont stop harassing you until he gets what he wants. I dont do things so... barbaric. I have a proposition for you,New USA Clarks Shoes, Dave."
The fear within David settled a bit as Corallo spoke as he leaned back some. A proposition. Curiosity grew within him as he waited for Corallo to finish his cigar.
"You've been researching the mafia but what ya dont know is that the mafia's been researching you." He chuckled lightly, "You grew up in a rough place, eh? A bunch of fights and stuff. Now you're looking into our family. My proposition is this." He puffed the cigar once more before depositing it out the window, "I like fresh bodies, moncler sale, Dave. Join the family."
The proposition took David by suprise. His eyes widened as Corallo spoke. It was true that he was in quite a bit of fights and was even a member of a gang back in his younger years but the mob? This was terribly unexpected. David was speechless as the car drew silent but Corallo broke the silence, "Think about it, Dave. Sleep on it."
The car slowed and soon came to a halt. Dave hadnt even noticed that they had parked in front of his house. The thug beside him opened his door and stepped out giving David room to exit the vehicle. He took it upon himself to step out and onto the sidewalk. As the thug re-entered the car Corallo spoke, "Tomorrow morning, one of my friends'll stop by. You can give him you're answer to my proposition. I hope it'll be what I want."
David nodded slowly before finally building the courage to speak, mbt schuhe günstig, "Thank you, Mr. Corallo."
"See-you tomorrow, Dave and be careful. Pecora's goons probably will be around sometime."
With that, the door closed and Corallo and his men drove off. They left David with a strange new opportunity and something that Dave would certinatly spend a lot of time considering. Finally, he turned and went to enter his house...
Alright. There's the prolouge. I know it wasnt all that great but it was just the prolouge. The first chapter will be twice as detailed and twice as long. This was an idea I had just a few days ago and I'm doing countless research on the mafia for this story. I hope it will be well enjoyed by everyone.Topics related articles:
