    ◇马宇歌除母语中文外，会一口流利的英语，擅长阅读、写作、绘画、大型节目主持、游泳、唱歌、跳舞、中长跑（2006年10月15日她曾在规定时间跑完42.195公里，赢得过国际田联特许举办的“第十届亚洲马拉松锦标赛”组委会主任和总裁判长亲手联合签发给马宇歌的“全程马拉松”《证书》。速跑和投掷，自初中以来，她直到大学每次都赢得过校运会金牌或其它奖项）……

◇最遗憾的事︰从小就拉的小提琴自高中奋战高考以来一直没动。

一、“当我在行走的时候，我的思想是最活跃的。”

小学四年级暑假，在父母的支持下，宇歌做了一件“大事”。1997年7月18日18时许，她辞别父母独自从北京一人乘火车前往江南，带着书本学访各处长达28天，历经南京、南通、吕四、淮南、淮北、徐州，最后返回北京。近一个月的独自出行，使刚入10岁的她眼界大开，广交了朋友，各方面都得到了锻炼，身体也更健壮了。

此后宇歌立志，到14岁前，要只身从北京出发，走遍全中国所有省（直辖市、自治区），把爱心洒满人间，实现“读万卷书、行万里路、交万名友”的自定目标，绝对不在中国的独生子女时代做温室中的小花朵。她的这个计划得到了父母和所在学校北京市西城区后广平小学曹振永校长的赞赏和支持。小学没有学生证，每次只身外出，她随身携带着自己的户口本和曹振永校长给她开具的学校证明信。

1998年初、农历大年三十，刚好10岁正上小学五年级的宇歌，跟随当地的叔叔、阿姨，一行三人来到了鄂、豫、皖交界的湖北省著名的贫困县——罗田，看望山区生活不富裕的小朋友，给他们送去了她的稿费、衣物、书报刊和文具用品等。那一次，她亲眼目睹了什么叫贫困，更为那里的小朋友自强自立的不屈精神所感动。1998年3月6号，在中国首都召开的“首批北京市百名优秀红十字青少年会员颁奖大会”上，宇歌作为我国这项省部级光荣称号的年龄最小的获得者，应邀向大会作了题为《博爱伴我走天下》的长篇脱稿演讲，得到一致好评。所有大会来宾，包括在主席台上就座的中华人民共和国国家教委、中国红十字会、北京市教委和北京市红十字会等各有关出席单位的领导，对她的演讲不断报以热烈的掌声。

在父母得赞同支持下，到13岁那年，宇歌已经利用每一个假日假期，只身走遍了全中国除了大陆人很难自由出入的台、港、澳以外其它各省（直辖市、自治区）共3 1个至200多县、市、乡、村，总行程超过30万公里，提前实现了她的10岁既定目标“读万卷书、行万里路、交万名友”的阶段性人生规划。

她在宁夏自治区石嘴山煤矿深入井下110米深巷道体验过矿工作业，在内蒙古自治区草原骑马目睹过蝗灾，赶上过小兴安岭火灾、西北湟水之患、陕西省紫阳县的泥石流等。她曾亲自去慰问过黑龙江省漠河县北极村的边防军、中国的南海舰队、驻扎在辽宁省锦州市的坦克兵；登临过武汉市的黄鹤楼、南昌市的滕王阁、青海省湟中县的塔尔寺、拉萨市的布达拉宫；游历过南京市紫荆山上的中山陵、成都市的杜甫草堂、株州市的炎帝陵、杭州市的岳武庙、鄂尔多斯市的昭君坟、山东省曲阜市的孔府；在黑龙江、嫩江、松花江、海河、黄河、淮河、长江、湘江、珠江、漓江、南海、黄海、东海、渤海等处都游过泳；兴安岭、六盘山、灵山、天山、泰山、吕梁山、太行山、大别山、井冈山、衡山、西双版纳原始山林、青藏高原均留下了她的幼小足迹。在各地所接触的要员当中，包括中国的党和国家领导人、部长、省长、市长、老红军、专家学者、知名人士和许多民族各类优秀青少年，如中国少年科学院院士、全国十佳少先队员、著名小翻译家、小作家、小书法家、小发明家、小舞蹈家、小记者等。宇歌说︰“大家给我以营养，给我以激励，给我以正义，给我以温暖。对比自身不足，每人所具突出优点，使我永远也自满不起来了，反而觉得个人不过沧海之一粟。”

宇歌每到一处，她都会把自己的见闻记在日记本里，有的还配上了自己画的速写或蜡笔画、水粉画。至今，她已写了四十来万字的游记，陆续全文刊发在各种媒体；并已有不少图书，摘要出版；全集正待整理，寻求付梓。


二、“博爱是一个人很重要的品质。”


在无数次的出行中，宇歌见到很多同龄人因为家庭贫困而无法读书。这给了她很大触动。小学三年级的时候，她就开始用自己挣的稿费捐助贫困学生，并与他们交朋友。后来她渐渐发现，自己的力量是很微不足道的，于是她开始借助那些有能力资助贫困生的人，用一种更为有效的途径来帮助贫困同学。

在刚刚过去的2006年大一年级暑假，宇歌到西藏去看望她儿时的藏族伙伴次仁白珍。次仁白珍此时刚通过2006年6月7日—8日举行的中国全国统一高考，被湖南大学土木工程学院2006级大学本科所录取。1999年寒假宇歌曾应次仁白珍的邀请，11岁那年顶着凛冽的冬日寒风，从北京只身前往世界屋脊西藏去她家里做过客。她俩同吃同住，晚上躺在一个氆氇里过夜，建立了终生难以割舍的深厚友谊。后来，次仁白珍考入北京西藏中学上高中，她们再次重逢，两人友爱笃深。宇歌得知，次仁白珍上大学的学费将由家里全部负担，而她的哥哥格多也是一名大学生，正在大连理工大学读书。她的父母都是退休教师，根本负担不起当下的两个大学生，外加下面还有一个正上高中的妹妹德白。此刻全家愁得只好准备贷款去供养次仁白珍上大学了。

话说关注并了解宇歌的外籍友人，知道宇歌经常帮助全国的贫困生，非常非常受感动，向她表示过，愿意出资协助宇歌共襄义举，扶危济困，帮助宇歌所熟悉的家庭不富裕而品学兼优的学生们，顺利完成学业。宇歌便把次仁白珍的困境告诉了自己的外籍友人，使次仁白珍马上从他们那里直接得到了现金救助，高高兴兴来到长沙，进入了湖南大学就读。从此，次仁白珍的大学四年全部学费和生活费，就全部由马宇歌认识的外籍友人，按时足额直接汇入次仁白珍指定的个人账户上了，中间不经任何人。这件事情逐渐被更多人知道了，他们纷纷打电话给宇歌，希望通过宇歌帮助寻找资助对象，因为他们信任这个廉洁而又诚实的来自清华的女生。宇歌也借这些上苍赐予她的有利条件，长期帮助了笔者认识的、有的还和笔者同在一个班上课、一个宿舍生活学习的清华校内家庭困难但却积极向上的几个大学同学。同时，对主动联系宇歌，提供善款的那些海内外慈善人士，宇歌一直心存感激，她替暂时困难的每一受助同学，衷心地祝愿世上所有乐善好施的好人们，各个一生平安！

“我希望把这当作一项义不容辞的使命和事业继续做下去！”宇歌两眼炯炯有神，撅着红红的嘴唇很认真地对我说。她已经有了一个初步设想︰等各方面条件再成熟一点以后，宇歌要成立一个基金会，专门用于资助那些○1家庭暂时还不富裕，但○2个人积极向上，○3具有诚实品德的在校儿童青少年。宇歌说，优先使具备这三点的同学受到救助，会使社会善良正义的主流将来不断获得动力和后援。她期待着中国未来会有更多善良有为的挚爱亲朋，成长起来。

宇歌说，原来有一段时间，她有些厌倦记者无休无止的采访，和通讯社、电视台、广播电台、报纸、杂志、图书、网络，年复一年对她的追踪报道。笔者仅在搜狗www.sogou.com 上搜索“马宇歌”的名字，看到关于她自幼以来不同年龄段的外界纪实报道和媒体文章转载等，10多年后目前竟然每天高达20.7万篇之多，点击率居我国一流高校名生之首！后来她意识到，其实完全可以利用自己的社会影响力，号召大家为贫困生都来献爱心。于是她开始积极配合媒体，希望更多的人能够支持她，支持她博爱的理想和愿望。宇歌认为那些主动帮助别人的人，应该永远受到自己的敬重和纪念！她也将以恰当得体的方式，回报天下一切善良的人们，让资助者感到他们曾经做过和付出的点点滴滴都是值得的！


三、“我愿做一个传播者。”


宇歌从小在各种场合演讲或担任主持工作，2004年12月份，她获得了中国的省级戏剧类（主持人）测试最高等级证书。在随后报名参加的北京的清华大学艺术特长生面试、文化课笔试、电视试镜等三项反复多轮淘汰性的考试中，她从全国各地成千上万名考生中胜出，被清华大学招办和清华大学电视台报送2005年清华大学招生领导小组，评审认定为清华大学电视台的主持人当年两名订招的大学本科对象之一。

宇歌的一些特长，在北京的清华大学这个广阔舞台上，得到了很大程度的发挥。2006年秋，清华大学建筑学院在北京世纪坛主办“2006年中国国际建筑双年展”，她主持了9月26日19时的开幕仪式。北京市教育委员会主办的大学生英语演讲比赛《奥运在我心中》，最后一场，拟于2006年暑假开始后的7月1日、2日两天在清华大学内举行，组委会特邀宇歌届时担任赛事现场主持人，并要全程使用英语。这年暑假一放假，宇歌就离京到沪、杭搞有关古迹保护的社会调研去了。2006年6月30日返校后，次日她如期赶到《奥运在我心中》赛事现场，全程用英语主持了连续两天的北京赛区演讲比赛。她当时英语运用自如，落落大方，词汇丰富；根据需要，恰当把握分寸，活跃现场气氛，组织参赛选手、台下观众、各方评委，大家一起互动交流；同时调动每位场上选手提高兴致，将个人潜力尽力发挥到位……她的主持赢得了全场的热烈欢迎，更获到场的主办方北京市教委、承办方清华大学英语系负责人的一致称赞。会后连现场外籍专家，都过来和宇歌握手，夸她不愧是中国出色的清华人。

作为一名清华大学艺术特长生，宇歌承担着学校电视台的播音主持工作。在播音与配音方面，由于她只是实干，从未经过专业性的长期系统培训，刚进大学电视台时，与领导的严格标准存在一定差距。为了能够尽快达到要求，宇歌向老师借来录音带，每天早晨按照要求反复练习，并常向老师和师哥、师姐求教。经过刻苦努力，认真琢磨，她很快就取得了长足的进步，促进了电视播音主持工作质量的显著提高。跨入清华大学本科一年多来，宇歌为清华大学电视台的多部电视节目，成功地进行了撰稿、解说配音、采播主持以及后期制作等项工作。她成功策划、组织、采访、撰稿的校庆报道专题片《清华大学军乐队九十周年国家图书馆专场音乐会》，在2006年4月最后一个星期天如期献给了北京的清华大学校庆日，赢得师生各方特别是校领导的极高赞誉。

谁都知道，清华学业很重在全国各高校中那是出了名的。再加上大家都是来源比较优秀的学生，可谓全国各市县的“状元”或尖子，入校之后平日彼此学习竞争激烈，直渗透到每一堂课甚至每一场测试之中。宇歌说，做社会工作有时候会让自己觉得时间不够，但经过很快的逐步自我调整，她学会了合理分配时间和精力，既不耽误学业，又能做好自己喜欢的事情。

宇歌说，自己越来越深爱在电视台的这项兼职工作。她已经初步开始策划一檔专题节目《宇歌问大学》，拟结合海内外各界一些有影响力的人物切身经历，就中国当代大学生应有的人生规划和价值取向发起并展开深入探讨。目前她正在抽空系统地进行学习，通过阅读专业书籍和向专业人士请教，加之不断地总结工作实践，大幅提高自己在校电视台兼职工作的业务水准。

“搞传播能够表达自己的想法，让你重新认识世界，认识自我。我喜欢每一次创作的乐趣享受，就像艺术家创作雕塑时所获得的那种快感。”噢，我忘了，宇歌本身就爱雕塑，所以这么有体会！马宇歌在2006年12月10日成就的4000字有关专业论文《讲述媒体聚焦，解读清华万象——清华电视台学生主持人从事读报栏目<媒体清华>感言》一文，认真地总结了她入校以来每周课余在电视台兼职工作的心路历程和经验，对一些现实问题，结合理论进行了深入研讨，得到清华大学新闻中心领导和清华大学电视台同仁的高度赞赏、高度评价。该文部分内容，已经被《重庆青年报》拿去刊发。（编者注︰详见《重庆青年报》2006年12月27日总第3068期、2006年12月28日总第3069期、2006年12月29日总第3070期各期第七版“青春校园•我的大学•讲述”栏目三天报纸连载）。

◇ 其实2006年令马宇歌开心的事还有许多。马宇歌筹划的一支选自大学不同年级和专业的7名同学组成的清华大学暑期社会实践支队，由她亲自率领着，在2006年暑假期间的7月27日从北京出发深入到中国湘西农村搞调研，8月5日返回北京，又反复经过数日数夜夜的资料整理和大家共同会商，终于被她提炼成了一篇2万字的高质量调研报告《为新农村建设节能》。紧接着她又代表自己的这支队伍，在全队的鼎力支持下，经过一轮轮“过五关，斩六将”的送审和她出面当众接受专家评委的答辩，先是在清华大学建筑学院获评本科生、研究生所有成果的唯一“第一名”，后来又从清华大学2006年暑假总共有10395人次参加组建的这年672支暑期社会实践支队中脱颖而出，在2006年11月3日终于赢得了校级最高评奖“2005——2006学年度清华大学学生社会实践金奖支队”的光荣称号。就在这一天，由她担任大会主持人的全校总结表彰大会上，马宇歌还当场从校领导手中获得了专门授给她的“2005——2006学年度清华大学学生社会实践先进个人”的嘉奖。其实早在2006年10月19日清华大学2006年暑期学生社会实践成果展开幕那天，校领导率队参观图文并茂的展览时走到紫荆公寓前的马宇歌一行制作的成果展区，就曾特别驻足对马宇歌率队搞出的农村调研成果表示了极大、极高的浓厚兴趣，清华大学校长顾秉林和陈希等人当场向马宇歌表示：这个调研项目和取得的成果很好，今后一定要支持你们继续搞下去，使之成为校方直接参与支持的一个重点科研项目并将其上报到中央有关主管部门，争取得到来自国家的全力支持进而成为一个被我国政府立项的重点科研项目。我兴尽未然结束采访的时候已经很晚了，宇歌还有事情要忙。坐在对面的她是那么的真实和平凡，让人难以想象，她是个有着传奇般经历的、值得我为之骄傲的一名祖国“天才”。真心希望内心灿烂的我的同班、同宿舍、同学马宇歌，能够不断实现自己的远大理想愿望，将美丽的博爱阳光继续洒向人间，充满21世纪我们所处的整个时代！（人物新闻报道《清华女生马宇歌︰“博爱伴我走天下！”》一文作者 黄莉，来自江苏省无锡市，是马宇歌在北京的清华大学的同班、同宿舍、同学兼班长）

《网络科技时代》杂志社《新课程实践》月刊“视点”栏目点射范围的扩大，是在摸索中形成的。鉴于素材和作者最初较为匮乏，我们栏目的总设计师周定珍老师建议把目光投向优秀学生。于是我们决定先从优秀大学生做起。因为他们自身的各方面发展基本已经告一段落，人生轨迹不仅具有可信度，而且具有说服力，很有实际参考借鉴价值。

对清华大学建筑学院本科2005级大二女生马宇歌事迹的了解源于一个电话，是北京市教育科学研究院的一位老师打来的。这位老师在电话中很坦诚地说︰“你们发多少素质教育理论文章，其实都不如马宇歌一个活生生的素质教育成功范例，更有研究价值和现实指导意义。现在的课程改革为了什么？还不是要看怎么提高学生素质，以培养适应时代发展需要的人才吗？我们的目的绝不是为了重复造就一些光会读书、读死书的书呆子吧！”接着，在其提示下，我们在网上搜索“马宇歌”名下的内容，没想到竟有数万条之多。随便打开一个关于她的网页，尽管该网站与教育并非直接相关，但其收录转载的有关马宇歌内容却已相当丰富。此后一段时间里我暂时把这件事放到了一边。因为有关高中新课改栏目的各省区篇章还没有得到落实，不得不在余下的有限时间里要赶快去找作者，赶任务。

对马宇歌相关事迹的再次关注，是因对“视点”栏目的忠诚︰我们作为海内外公开发行的中华人民共和国教育部直属的中央级教育专刊，请请教育界的人士来谈课改，是件非常容易做到的事情，难在如何能够找到一位业外的“旁观者”，听他很有质量地侃侃课改。可以说，我们一直都在努力物色这位潜在的“旁观者”。费尽周折，最终我联系到了马宇歌的父亲马弘毅先生。官方报道称马弘毅先生是我国一位著名的民主人士，教授级高级经济师，他所从事的具体工作虽与教育直接无关，但先生对教育事业的涉足与关注，从他15岁时就开始了，并且后来直至今日成就斐然。最为世人称道的是，他以大胆创新的独特教育理念，出色地运用于实践，结果培养出了当今举世公认的素质教育楷模马宇歌。延请马弘毅先生从业外人士的角度谈课改，他是完全有资格的，再合适不过了。原想马先生不会轻易答应我的约请。和他深谈一番后，越发感到我找此人找对了，他到后来竟欣然答应了我们的请求。于是，便有了《网络科技时代》杂志总第101期《新课程实践》月刊“视点”栏目刊登的马弘毅先生署名文章《大国崛起的动力后劲来自教育革命》之诞生。（带书名号上网搜这篇文章的标题，在各种搜索引擎里都能找到它的全文）关于他本人的教育思想、实践与学界评价，我们将在下期详细介绍给大家。

正像清华大学建筑学院本科2005级大二女生黄莉同学说的︰ “马宇歌是个有着传奇般经历的值得我为之骄傲的一名祖国‘天才’”。据对了解马宇歌的更多老师、同学、教育专家的直接访问结果看，马宇歌的优异表现，按她自己的话说︰“更多地是来源于后天的养成。”从一个人的成长过程来看，禀赋固然能为之奠定很好的发展基础，然而教育环境和由此培养出来的个人良好习惯，似乎更为重要。

Ma’s Personal Archives:

Date of birth:  at 8:00 P.M. Beijing Time, on May 23, 1987 (or 9:00 p.m. of the Beijing Summer Time)

Place of birth: Yuxi City, Yunnan Province (though she grows up in Beijing with her parents from her childhood)

Height: 1.65 meters  

Vision: naked eyes (one of those rare students in Tsinghua University with no need to wear glasses)

Besides Chinese, Ma can speak English fluently. She is also good at reading, writing, painting, hosting large-scale events, swimming, singing, dancing, distance running (on October 15, 2006 she had run 42.195 km, and won "Full Marathon" certificate personally issued by the director and the coach-general of the IAAF organizing committee who had held the 10th Asian Marathon Championships. She has won the gold medal for school athletic meets or other awards on sprinting and throwing since junior high school

The most regrettable thing: giving up playing the violin since her striving for the entrance examination of Tsinghua University


I.    “my thoughts are most active when I walk”


On her Fourth-grade summer vacation, with the support of her parents, Ma did a "great event." At 6 p.m.on July 18, 1997, after farewell to her parents Ma took a train by herself from Beijing down to the Yangtze River areas. During those 28 days, she brought books with her through Nanjing, Nantong, Lvsi, Huainan, Huaibei, Xuzhou, finally returned Beijing.   Nearly a month of travel alone made 10-year-old Ma an eye-opener and friend-maker with a more robust body.

Since then, Ma had make up her mind that before 14 she will walk from Beijing over all the provinces (Municipalities and Autonomous Regions) in China, show her love to the world, realize her goal of “read a lot make trip further, and make thousands of friends”. She had determined not to be a flower in a greenhouse in this one-child era. Her plan got appreciation and support from her parents and Cao Zhenyong(曹振永), headmaster of her school Hou Guang Ping primary school in Xicheng District of Beijing. Primary school students were not permitted to go out alone, so she carried her resident booklet and a certificate letter issued by Headmaster Cao.

On the Lunar New Year's Eve, 1998 Ma, 10-year-old in Grade Five, went with local uncle and aunt to a well-known poverty-stricken county – Luotian, a mountainous area at the junction of  Hubei, Henan, Anhui Provinces, to see the children there and brought her contribution fee together with clothing, books, newspapers, and stationeries. On that occasion, she witnessed the poverty but was moved by the indomitable spirits of self-reliance of the children. On March 6, 1998, Ma, as the youngest winner of the provincial level award "the first batch of Beijing’s hundred outstanding young Red Cross members" held in the Chinese capital, was invited to give a long speech to the General Assembly entitled Universal Love Accompanies Me to Take the World. All guests of the General Assembly, including leaders of State Education Commission of China, the Red Cross of China, Beijing Municipal Education Committee and Beijing Municipal Red Cross and other relevant units at present, gave her warm applause continuously.

With support and agreement of her parents Ma used every holiday traveled alone through 31 provinces, over 200 counties cities, towns and villages with a total journey over 300,000 km in nearly all provinces in China except Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao when 13, realizing her periodical planning she had determined at 10 yeas old: read a lot, make trip further, and make thousands of friends.   

She experienced mining-operation in underground coal tunnel 110 meters deep in Shizuishan of Ningxia Autonomous, witnessed the grasslands on horseback over the plague of locusts in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, saw the fire in Xingan Mountains, flood northwest, and mud-rock flow in Ziyang county, Shanxi Province. She had personally condolences over the border guards in Arctic village, Mohe County of Heilongjiang Province, China's South Sea Fleet, the tank forces based in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province; boarded over the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, Taer Monastery in Huangzhong County of Qinghai Province, the Potala Palace in Lhasa City; traveling over the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum on Zi Jingshan, Nanjing, Du Fu's Thatched Cottage in Chendu, the tomb of Emperor Yandi in Zhuzhou, Yue Wu (Yue Fei) Temple in Hangzhou, Wang Zhaojun's tomb in the Ordos City, Confucian Residence in Qufu, Shandong Province; ever swimming in Heilongjiang, Nenjiang and Songhua River, Haihe River, Yellow River, Huaihe River, Yangtze River, Xiang River, Pearl River, Li River, the South China Sea, Yellow Sea and East China Sea, Bohai Sea; and leaving her immature footprints on Xingan Mountains, Liupan Mountain, Ling Mountain , Tianshan Mountain, Mount Tai, Luliang and Taihang Mountains, the Dabie Mountains, Jinggangshan Mountain, the original forest in Xishuangbanna and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau have. Among the VIPs Ma contacting in various parts were leaders of the CPC and the country such as ministers, governors and mayors, the Red Army, experts and scholars, dignitaries and many outstanding young people of various nationalities, such as the China Youth Academy of Sciences, the National Top Ten Young Pioneers, the well-known young translator, young writer, young calligrapher, young inventors, young dancers, young reporters. Ma said, "You have given me nutrition, encouragement, justice, and warmth. Comparing my own shortcomings with your outstanding advantages, I will never be complacent; however, I feel that an individual is just a drop in the sea. "

Ma would note down what she witnessed in diaries wherever she went. Some diaries accompanied with sketches, wax-crayon or gouache paintings. She has written 400 thousand words about travel so far; she has published some of them through mass media in full-text; and has published quite a number of books and summaries; she now is collating her Complete Works of printing.


II.    “Universal love is a very important quality of a person”     


In numerous trips, Ma saw many people of her own age could not go to school because of family poverty. This touched her a lot. She began to collect her contribution fees for poor students, and made friends with them since Grade Three in primary school. Later, she came to know her own strength was very small so that she looked for a more effective way to help poor students with support of some wealthy persons.

In the summer holiday of 2006, Ma went to Tibet to visit her childhood friend the Tibetan girl Tsering Baizhen（次仁白珍）. At that time Bai-Zhen had just passed the national college entrance examination in China on June 7-8, 2006 and had got admission by School of Civil Engineering, Hunan University. Ma had been invited by Baizhen in the winter vocation in 1999; she went from Beijing at 11 in chilly wind to Tibet, the Roof of the World. They ate together, lay together in a Pulu through the nights, thus they established a life-long friendship that couldn’t be given up. Later, Bai-Zhen was admitted to the Beijing Tibetan Middle School. They met again and the friendship became deeper. Ma then knew that Baizhen’s family would afford her university tuition fees. But Baizhen’s brother, Geduo(格多) was still a student Dalian University of Technology. Her parents are retired teachers not able to afford two college students currently, furthermore Baizhen’s younger sister Debai(德白) was also a student in a senior middle school. The whole family was worried and had no choice but provide a loan as her University tuition fees.

The foreign friends who knew about Ma’s helping poor students all over the country are quite moved; they said to Ma that they were willing to assist in the total funding of students of successful completion of their studies from poor students with good academic performance. After Ma told the foreign friends about Tsering Baizhen, the latter got the cash assistance immediately and directly from them, thus she came to Changsha happily to enter Hunan University. Since then, Ma’s foreign friends, in full and on time remitted money directly into the designated Bai-Zhen’s personal accounts, with nobody in the middle, which guaranteed Tsering Baizhen’s tuition fees and living expenses in the four years of university. Gradually more and more people knew this; they have called Ma and hoped that she could help finding financing students, because they trust the integrity and honesty of this Tsinghua University girl. Ma, with such a favorable condition, helped some students in long term, some of them the author also knows, including some students from difficult families but working positively in the same classroom, living in the same dormitory at the same University with the author. At the same time, Ma has been grateful for those generous persons who had contacted her initiatively and provided charitable donations at home and abroad. Still, on behave of each poor student who received the donations, Ma hoped sincerely that those generous people all have well and save lives.  

“I hope this will be continued as a bounden duty and career!” Ma told me very seriously, her eyes sparkled and her red lips broken off. She has made a preliminary idea: when she has got full preparation, she will set up a foundation dedicated to those: 1. not rich currently, 2. positive and working hard and 3. Honest adolescents at school.  Ma said that to aid students who have got these three proprieties can cause motivation and back-up of the mainstream social justice in the future. She is looking forward to the growing up of more and more good and promising ones in future China.

Ma said that in a period of time she was tired of some of the endless interviews and follow-up reports year after year by journalists, news agencies, television stations, radio stations, newspapers, magazines, books, Internet. I just searched Ma Yuge’s Chinese name “马宇歌” on www.sogou.com, and then I saw up to 207,000 documentary and reprinting articles on her different ages over 10 years from on her childhood till the present day by the outside world and the media. The website has the No.1 hitting rate among that of all the famous students in colleges and universities! Later, she realized that in fact she could make use of her social influence to call for donation for poor students. So she began to cooperate with the media actively, and she hoped there would be more people in support of her and her ideals and aspirations of universal love. Ma thought that those who helped others initiatively should always be respected and commemorated. She will repay those kind-hearted people in proper way to make them feel that they deserve it no matter how little they have done.


III. "I would like to be a disseminator."


Ma has lectured or presided over a variety of occasions from very young age. In December 2004, she won the highest certificate of the drama category at the provincial level in China for hosts. During the after-math three repeated rounds of elimination tests of interview, exams of cultural studies and television screen test of students with artistic specialties enrolling Tsinghua University in Beijing, Ma, won from tens of thousands of candidates all over the country, was submitted to the leading group of admission of Tsinghua University by the Tsinghua University Admission Committee and Tsinghua University TV Station and was identified as one of the two determined undergraduates of Tsinghua University’s television host that year.  

Some of Ma’s specialties have brought into play in lager degree in the vast arena of Tsinghua University. The autumn of 2006, she presided over the opening ceremony of the "2006 China International Architecture Biennale" opening ceremony at 7 p.m.on September 26 by School of Architecture, Tsinghua University at the Millennium Monument in Beijing.

The last round of the English speech contest “Olympic Games are in my heart” of university students, which organized by Beijing Municipal Education Commission, would be held two days on July 1st and 2nd in the summer vacation 2006 in Tsinghua University. The organization committee invited Ma as on-the-spot host of the event using English in the entire process. When the summer vacation began that year, Ma left Beijing to Shanghai and Hangzhou for research on protection of relevant historical monuments. On June 30, 2006 after back-to-school, she arrived on event site of “Olympic Games are in my heart” as scheduled the next day and presided over two consecutive days of the Beijing Division Speech Contest in English. She handled English very skillfully, naturally and gracefully with rich vocabulary; took appropriate sense of propriety as needed, activated atmosphere, and organized the interaction and communication of players, audience, and the judges; at the same time she mobilized every player’s interest to maximize the potential of individuals ... ... She won not only the auspices of a warm welcome from the audience, but also the unanimous praise from organizers of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and contractors of responsible persons of Department of Foreign Language, Tsinghua University. Even the foreign experts at the scene came to shake hands with Ma aftermath and acclaimed her as an excellent Tsinghua people indeed of China.

As a student with artistic specialties in Tsinghua University, Ma works as broadcaster and hostess of Tsinghua University television station. In broadcasting and dubbing aspects, though hard work, with no long-term professional training, there was distance from the strict standards of the leaders when first entered the University television station. In order to meet the requirements as soon as possible, Ma of borrowed tapes from teachers then practiced repeatedly every morning in accordance with the requirements and often consulted teachers and the senior fellow and female apprentice of same masters. Hard work and careful pondering led to her quick, considerable progress and the significant improvement of promotion of quality of broadcasting and hosting. More than a year after entering Tsinghua University, Ma has done successfully on manuscript-writing, explanation and budding, interviewing and presiding over as well as post-production work. She with successful planning, organizing, interviewing and reports writing on the celebration of “the documentary concert for the 90th anniversary of the Tsinghua University military band at National Library” on the last Sunday of April 2006 as scheduled dedicated to the celebration of Beijing's Tsinghua University, won acclaim from all the teachers, students and the leaders of the University in particular.
     
Everyone knows that Tsinghua University is famous for its heavy academic tasks among colleges and universities across the country. Furthermore the students there are all comparatively better students, or the so-called No.1 or the top ones in cities or counties all over the country, they compete with each other from learning on weekdays, to the infiltration of each class or even each test. Ma said that sometimes she may have not enough time when doing social jobs, but soon after a step-by-step self-adjustment, she learned to a rational allocation of time and effort. Now she can do what she likes without any delay of her studies.

     Ma said that she loved this part-time job in their television station more and more. She has already started preliminary planning "Ma asks about Universities"; a program which initiates and carries out in-depth study of planning and proper values of life with combination of personal experiences of a number of influential figures all walks of life both at home and abroad for contemporary Chinese college students. At present she is taking time to carry out a systematic study by reading books and consulting professionals together with constantly summing up practical works to a substantial increase of her part-time professional standards at the TV station.

“Dissemination can express your own viewpoints and let you understand the world and yourself again. I like enjoying the pleasure of creation every time, like that kind of pleasure artists get from sculpture-creation.”  Oh, I forgot, Ma Loves sculpture herself so as to have such an experience! On December 10, 2006 in her 4000-word professional papers "talking about media-focusing and explaining phenomena at Tsinghua – impression of student-host on engaging in the newspaper columns Media Tsinghua", Ma seriously summed up her inner course and experience of after-school job in Tsinghua Universtiy TV Station, combining with in-depth theoretical searching into some practical problems. This paper was sung high praise for by leaders of Tsinghua University News Center and colleagues of Tsinghua University TV Station. Parts of the text have been published on Chongqing Youth Daily. In fact, in 2006 there were more things which made Ma happy. In summer Ma organized a social practicing group of 7 students chosen from different grades and majors of Tsinghua University, under her personal leading, went from Beijing to rural areas in Hunan Province for research on July 27, 2006, and returned on August 5. With repeated data-arrangements and consultation of several days and nights she finally extracted a high-quality 20,000-word research "save energy for the construction of New Villages." Immediately she represented her team, in full support of the whole team, and after several rounds of passing-barriers investigation and to-her- face and in-public defence in front of experts, first won No.1 among all results of graduates and undergraduates of School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, then stood out from the total 672 teams of 10,395 people of social practice in Tsinghua University 2006 summer vacation, and finally on November 3 won the highest award and glorious title of the University “2005-2006 School Year Tsinghua University Student Social Practice Gold Award Detachment”. On that day, serving as moderator of the General Assembly of the whole school awards ceremony, Ma accepted the special award handled by leaders of the school for "2005 - 2006 school year advanced social practice individual of Tsinghua University". In fact as early as October 19, 2006 when the leaders’ team of Tsinghua University visited the exhibition of on the opening day of results of students’ social practice, passing exhibition of achievements with words and pictures, they came to and stood particularly before the team research results in rural areas by Ma’s group in front of Zijing Dormitory(紫荆公寓) with greatest interests.  Presidents Gu Binglin(顾秉林), Chen Xi(陈希) and others said to Ma on-the-spot that their research project and the achieved results were very good so they would be in support of doing so in the future. They hope it can be a key scientific research project with the direct involvement and support by the school and they will report it to higher authorities in hope for obtaining full support from the country to be a focus research project by our government.

It was very late when I ended the interview without enjoying myself to the full. Ma still has something to be busy with. She's sitting on the opposite side, so real so ordinary. It is hard to imagine that she is a “genius” of the motherland with a legendary experience I should be proud of." I Sincerely hope my classmate, dormmate and schoolmate Ma, who with brilliant heart, realize her lofty ideals and aspirations, the beautiful fraternity-love sunshine spread worldwide and fill the era of the 21st century we are living. The scope expansion of “viewpoint”, a column of the monthly magazine New Subjects and Practices of Network Technology Times magazine agency, is shaped through feeling out." In view of deficiency of author of original material, our chief designer Zhou Dingzhen(周定珍) suggested to turned our eyes for outstanding students. Then we decided to start with excellent college students. Because their basic developments in all aspects have come to an end, their life-locus are not only credible but convincing, thus they have real value for references.

The understanding about the stories of Ma, a sophomore girl from School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, is owing to a call from Beijing Municipal Institute of Science and Technology Education. The teacher said quite frankly through the phone: "the many theoretical articles of quality education are, in fact, not as good as Ma, a living example of successful quality education, with more research values and practical significance. What’s the Current curriculum reform for? Is it not for improving the quality of students and fostering talents fit for the need of temporal developments? Our aim is not to repeatedly make bookworms who only know reading books and only read the books dead!" Then, in her tips, we searched the name Ma Yuge’s Chinese “马宇歌” on the web and unexpectedly got articles as many as tens of thousands. Just open one of these articles, though it is not directly related to education it is very rich in relevant contents about Ma after indexation and reprinting of Ma. After that I put the matter aside for a period of time. As the sections of new senior curriculum reform in the provinces and autonomous regions have not yet been implemented, I had to look for author and accompany the task as soon as possible during the limited time left.

Once again concerning about Ma’s stories was due to loyalty to “viewpoint” section. As a public-offering and central-leveled special education magazine at home and abroad which directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, it is very easy to invited some education sectors talking about curriculum reform, but it is hard to find a “bystander” outside the education sector talking about curriculum reform with easy and fluency. It can be said that we have been trying to identify the potential "bystander." Painstakingly, I finally connected with Ma's father, Mr. Ma Hongyi. Mr. Ma, officially a famous democrat, professor-level senior economist, has engaged in and concerned about education from 15-year-old and got remarkable achievements though his work has nothing directly to do with education. The most commendable thing is that he, bold in blazing new trails of unique education philosophy with well-applied practice, has trained Ma as a world-recognized quality education model today. Mr. Ma is fully qualified and better be invited to talk about curriculum reform with his outside-of-education viewpoint.

At first I thought that Mr. Ma would not easily agree to be invited. And after a deep talk with him, I felt that I had found the right person and he was pleased to be invited.
As a result there was an article by Mr. Ma The Potential Power of Rising of Great Nations Comes from Education Revolution on Column “Viewpoint” on the No.101 of the total of monthly magazine “The New Curriculum Practice” (a monthly magazine) of Network Technology Times. (Search the Internet with the title of the article, its full text can be found by a variety of search engines) we will introduce his education ideals, his practices and academic evaluation he has got in detail on next phase of our magazine.)

Just as Huang Li, an undergraduate sophomore girl of School of Architecture Tsinghua University, said: “Ma is a 'genius' of the motherland with a legendary experience I should be proud of." According to the direct interviews of teachers, students, education experts who are more familiar with Ma, and in her own words, her excellent performances "(are) more from the acquired habits." During a person's growth process, the endowment of course can lay a good foundation for the development, but it seems more important of education environment and a good personal habits resulting from this.

【2】 Ma later studies both the arts and natural sciences, together with the curriculum of  School of Laws, thus becomes a dual-degree undergraduate student in School of Architecture and  School of Laws of Tsinghua University. She required herself to get these two different bachelor degrees on time in 2009 summer before her graduation.
